Quebec City captures the romance and feel of another place and time; the Chateau Frontenac is the embodiment of that mood.

Often described as the most photographed hotel in the world, the Chateau Frontenac is perhaps the most recognizable symbol of Quebec City. Built by renowned architect, Bruce Price, the Chateau Frontenac overlooks the Saint Lawrence River.

Hotel Features

Visitors to the Chateau Frontenac will see characters dressed in period costume frequenting the hotel lobby. If the costumes and tone of the times appeal to you, be sure to take in a meal at the Chateau Frontenac Le Champlain restaurant, where you'll dine on classic French cuisine served by staff in traditional French garb.

Just for Kids

The Chateau Frontenac provides a superior family experience. Highly recommended is Afternoon Tea with Madame Rose, where kids sit down to a formal tea and learn teatime etiquette under the watchful and discerning eye of Madame Rose. Teatime etiquette includes storytelling, how to eat and serve tea party goodies, and how to show off your perfect manners in any social setting. A great opportunity for the kids to dress up and play grownup. (Cost: $25 CAD per child. Age range: 5 - 12)

(Note to Adults: Don't feel left out of the afternoon tea experience. There's an old-fashioned adult afternoon tea in Le Champlain's from June to October. $35 CAD. Sorry, etiquette tips from Madame Rose not included.)

In addition to teatime with Madame Rose, the Chateau Frontenac also offers, for kids: daily drawing contests, kitchen visits and photo opps with the chef, milk and cookies bedtime turndown, and a tour of the hotel with a period character.

Within Walking Distance of the Chateau Frontenac

  1. The Funiculaire - Opened in 1879, the funiculaire is just steps away from the Chateau Frontenac - it takes you down to the Lower Town, where the quaint shops and restaurants of Old Town Quebec City wait. There is a $1.75 charge for the ride, which includes a scenic overview of Old Town.
  2. Plains of Abraham - This lovely green space is great for joggers, rollerbladers and cross country skiiers. In bygone days it was the scene of turbulent battles between the British and the French.
  3. Simons - Shopping anyone? Simons is the place to shop in Quebec for clothing - there is a Simons located a five-minute walk from the Chateau Frontenac.
  4. Musée de la Civilisation - this contemporay complex shakes out the cobwebs sometimes associated with museums. Don't miss "Make Way for the Middle Ages", an exploration into that particular timeline; great for the whole family.
