Overview of the Aquarium

The Parc Aquarium du Québec is a large 16-hectare aquarium in Québec City. This beautiful aquarium overlooks the St. Lawrence River and Québec City’s bridges. This site is the only one of its kind in the province of Québec. It is operated by Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq), and is a member of the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The aquarium has approximately 10,000 living specimens representing about 300 species. Visitors can experience and interact with mammals, fish, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles. Marine mammals including polar bears, Atlantic and Pacific walruses and several seal species also live in the Parc Aquarium.

Things to Do at the Parc Aquarium du Québec

For information about services and activities when entering the Parc Aquarium, stop at the reception pavilion by the entrance. Advisors are available to suggest a personalized visit plan based on individual interests and time available.

Some interesting things visitors may enjoy at the aquarium include:

• Having breakfast with a walrus while it is being fed.

• Learning about the two resident polar bears, Eddy and Tiguak, through staff talks.

• Watching seals and walruses while they are trained.

• Learning about and touching several types of invertebrates.

• Watching a movie about the Arctic.

Beyond these special events, there are 7 different areas to explore at The Parc Aquarium du Québec, including a Wetlands area, the Arctic Sector, the Fresh Water and Salt Water area, the Banks of the St. Lawrence River, the Coastal Zone, the Awesome Ocean, and a place called A Scientific Crossroads.

Parc Aquarium offers one restaurant and two food courts for the whole family. In summer, one can also enjoy a lovely outdoor terrace and an ice cream parlour. There are also several scenic picnic areas throughout the park.

There is a souvenir shop to browse, as well.

Information about Getting to and Visiting the Parc

Just 15 minutes from downtown Québec City, Parc Aquarium is located beside the bridges at the entrance to the west side of Québec City. It is also 5 minutes from the large malls, Place Laurier, Place de la Cité and Place Sainte-Foy.
